For those of you who don’t know, DC can make some pretty amazing animated movies. It is probably the only thing they do better than Marvel. Currently there are 26 titles under the DC Universe Animated Original Movies theme. All of which are not aimed at a kid audience. And this movie is no exception.

The movie is based on the 1988 graphic novel of the same name, which provides an origin story for the infamous Joker. Just in case none of you have read the comic, I won’t give away any spoilers. The movie is done in a similar style to the 90’s cartoon, with two of the key voice actors in the series returning (Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker). But don’t let its kid friendly look fool you. From the minute the first casualty gets shot, you can tell the movie is not meant for a 5-year-old.

Compared to other movies in the series, The Killing Joke did seem a little slow. But what the movie lacked in action, it made up for in story.
