The Five Hundred are Tearing Shit Up

Words by Sophie Maughan

This is a warning folks. Front insists you sit up and buckle the fuck up – because there’s a new contender in town grasping for that coveted UK metal crown. And they go by the name The Five Hundred.

Hurtling straight out of Nottingham (by way of Gibraltar) like a freight train from hell, this five-man wrecking machine have been pummelling eardrums and melting faces since late 2014.

EP’s Winters (2015) and The Veil (2017) harness unbridled ferocity and searing emotion in equal measures alongside down-tuned riffs and crushing tech-grooves. This, dear readers, is 8-string metal at its most gloriously belligerent.

Fresh from a raging jaunt around Europe with death-metal monoliths Carnifex this Spring, and with high profile slots supporting Tesseract and Sikth in the bag, it’s only a matter of time before this lot take a seat amongst the upper echelons of the scene.
Word on the proverbial street is that there is a full-length debut album on the way. But, for now we thoroughly recommend checking out the brand-spanking new video for ‘Ghost In The Flames’ which premiered yesterday courtesy of the fine folks over at Metal Hammer. Directed by Shaun Hodson of Loki Films and chock-full of aural / visual delights, it’s definitely 4 minutes well spent. They’ve even chucked in a creepy exorcism for good measure. Bang on.

Front suggests you watch this space!
