Tinder is looking to make hooking up even more virtual by having Artificial Intelligence (AI) find you a date. The ultimate goal is to have Siri, Google Now or Cortana find peopole with same interests and match them as ideal partners.
Tinder chairman Sean Rad explained his vision at the Start-Up Grind technology conference:
“In five years time, Tinder might be so good, you might be like ‘Hey Siri, what’s happening tonight?’ And Tinder might pop up and say ‘There’s someone down the street you might be attracted to. She’s also attracted to you. She’s free tomorrow night. We know you both like the same band, and it’s playing – would you like us to buy you tickets?’ and you have a match.”
While Rad went on to admit “It’s a little scary” many people will agree that if done properly, this idea might make finding your match much easier and less awkward.
Is it right?…or left.
Some people might think that Tinder itself is taking meeting people via your phone too far. But how much different is swiping left or right for a picture, to deciding you like someone you see at the bar? It’s the same process but through a different route.
There are tons of happy couples in long term relationship that started off with Tinder. Without the app, these romances would
have never seen the light of day. If the developers of the app feel that there might be an even easier way to find “the one” be it, for one night or for a lifetime, then why not try and see where this new idea takes us?
Tinder estimates that around 1.4bn swipes are made every day, with roughly 26 million matches a day. Those are some high figures. Whether it’s a bad or good thing is up for debate. What we know is that with such a huge following, whatever the dating and hook-up giants will try to do next, will have a huge impact on many social and love lives whether we like it or not.
